Services
News
The Public Affairs Office provides a link between the campus and international, national, state, regional, and local news media. Through relationships formed with the campus's academic divisions, Public Affairs Office staff provide reporters with press releases and other information about faculty activities in the areas of research, instruction, and public service. The office also provides reporters with information about administrative initiatives or activities.
Periodicals
The Public Affairs Office produces a variety of periodicals that inform UCSC's many constituencies about the nature and scope of the educational, research, and public service activities of the campus's people and programs and seek understanding and/or support for those activities. These regularly distributed publications include Currents, the campus's administrative newspaper, published for faculty, staff, students, and the general public; newsprint editions are published monthly (except in December) during the academic year, and online editions are published weekly during the academic year and every other week during the summer. The Public Affairs Office also produces the UCSC Review, the campus magazine, twice a year for alumni, parents of current students, donors, and prospective students. Other periodicals include the General Catalog, the UCSC Foundation Annual Report, the Facts & Figures booklet, and the Crime Awareness publication.
Publications
The Public Affairs Office provides direct publication design, editorial, and production support--from concept through delivery of final product--to units that communicate with essential (primarily external) institutional constituencies. Client groups currently include the Chancellor's Office, Public Affairs, University Relations, and Student Affairs. The Publications unit currently designs, edits, and produces approximately 100 printed publications per year for audiences that include prospective and current students, donors and potential donors, alumni, parents, and the general public. In addition to the General Catalog, Review, and Foundation Annual Report (described in the Periodicals section, above), work load includes Student Affairs's primary admissions, financial aid, and housing publications. The office also produces a campus editorial style guide.
Web Development
The Public Affairs Office provides design, editorial, organizational, and some technical support for UCSC's upper-level (portal) web pages. In addition to developing the first- and second-level pages, Public Affairs Office staff provide web consultation services to other official administrative units. The support includes the development of guidelines for UCSC web authors and the development of design templates for other units' use.
